About
“Provence is my land. It’s where my roots and my soul are.”
Pierre Uvietta was born on December 16th, 1956. He considers his native region an eternal source of inspiration. It’s
no wonder that he’s fascinated by the light and beauty that have always illuminated the lavender fields of his childhood.
Miles away from the academic trainings in art, Pierre has started painting spontaneously. In the daytime, he works in a large
telecommunication company. Then he barters his modern devices to devote his nights to his passion: works of art halfway between
painting and sculpture. Although the familiar landscapes inspire him, it’s through the feminine curves that Pierre has chosen
to unveil his artistic sensibility.
“My subjects are women without a face but not without a soul.”
Pierre paints women whose features are invisible. Each being introduced to us is unique and plural at the same time. Those
women « without a face » enable us to imagine an infinity of faces, an infinity of stories. They express postures and body movements.
Often painted in blue, they capture the symbolism of the color to represent mystery and spirituality.
“Esotericism holds an important place in my life. Everyday, this philosophy brings me closer to self-fulfilment: I try to
keep away from the beaten path and find my own references and values.”
Pierre has a passion for the esoteric culture, especially for the material and spiritual alchemies. After years of research,
he finally came up with a material: his « Quintessence ». It’s a secret mix of pigments, gum arabic, and various substances.
From then on, his subjects have been born from this material and wood has been the stand of his artistic creations.
“Beyond color, I want my paintings to have an innovative and efficient texture.”
Shapes and colors animated Pierre’s dreams. Little by little they gave birth to his subjects. The desire to immortalize them
was growing. But how? Through painting only? Or through sculpture? Pierre wanted his work to radiate thanks to the nuances and
materials.
To achieve a painting, he applies several layers of « Quintessence » (up to 4 or 5). Then he sculpts relief with a knife. Between
two and three hours are needed between each application. This material constantly evolves as Pierre enriches it with minerals in
order to add shine: pink quartz, mother-of-pearl, or even gold glitter.
To add color and warmth, he uses nuances of orange yellow. Contrary to a « traditional » painter, he works on the frames after placing
them horizontally.
“I want to keep the emotion of the movement intact.”
His paintings are rich of nuances and depths like windows opened on a universe in motion. The paintings release an atmosphere of
respect and altruism. The subjects are captured « right in their action » and the bodies aren’t fixed. To the contrary, they try to
catch the light in an attempt to render the idea of uninterrupted movement. The bodies are magnified, as if hung in space and time,
like the victims of a timeless fracture.
“In my way, I try to contribute to the creation of businesses and associations.”
Pierre Uvietta voluntarily helps and participates in the creation and management of humanitarian schemes. Sensitive and altruist,
he’s offered his paintings as logos or emblems of great causes or values of the economic world. Besides, thanks to his passion, he’s
met people from various horizons. Throughout these exchanges, he’s collaborated in the organization of several exhibitions and a painting
contest.
Where to see his work:
Pierre is currently preparing a vernissage and a large exhibition. His tallest paintings measure up to 1.20 m (3.94 ft) but he
dreams of painting on five-meter frames (16.5 ft).
